What has happened to Game of Thrones?

Dear Readers,

I don’t know about you guys but I am a super fan of Game of Thrones, it is my favorite TV show of all times perhaps, I pride myself on knowing all kinds of (pretty useless!) trivia and have thoroughly enjoyed almost every episode. I however have a serious bone to pick with Dan and Dave, the show’s writers. They have, in my and many other’s opinion destroyed the show, and with only one episode left as I am writing this, there is little chance of redemption. Honestly, The first three episodes of season 8 were very good and I could stand by them but episode 4 & 5 (Spoilers ahead) were just poor and written terribly compared to other episodes.

Firstly, why would Jon and Daenerys march south, separately, it doesn’t make any sense. Dany won’t be able to attack King’s Landing without her army so why split forces. It would make more sense for them to march south together, show a united front and it would give a chance for Dany to persuade people they meet that she would be a good ruler and show them her vision.

Disregarding the first fault, then the Targaryen fleet sails to Dragonstone without scouting it out first. Being practical, surely one of the smaller, faster ships with a dozen or so soldiers would be sent forward to secure the Island, make sure it isn’t being occupied or perhaps a large fleet isn’t hiding there, waiting to ambush and kill Dany’s dragons. It also made no sense how the Iron Fleet were able to capture Missandei, like what? Out of everyone that was in the water, Tyrion, Varys, Greyworm-the commader of Daenerys’ armies, they choose Missandei.

The thing that maddened me the most was them making Daenerys mad. Like, D&D keep saying that it was foreshadowed a million times that Dany would become mad and massacre innocents, but she has only ever wanted to execute her enemies, usurpers, people that opposed her, not innocents. Why would she go north, sacrifice herself, half her army and some of her closest companions, not to mention half her army, weakening the rest to save the entire human race, if she was just going to murder a million of them a couple of weeks later. People don’t just become mad, its a gradual progression. If they want her to become mad, do it over a season or two. Don’t change seven seasons worth of a character’s personality and ‘arc’ in one episode. Dany has been betrayed before and has lost people she loved before, it never made her mad, it made her strive to be better, its not a valid excuse.

Next, I want to talk about Cersei. Another character arc they ruined. Why would they spend eight seasons making Cersei the main antagonist and villain of the show, if they were going to humanize her and make her look like a scared mother fending for her unborn’s child’s life. She deserved a violent execution or burning alive, when you compare it to the likes of Catelyn Starks’s death and then compare their characters, like what???

Finally, why are D&D, making Arya the protagonist all of a sudden? She has been a secondary character for seven seasons but now she killed the Night King, we saw her perspective during the burning of King’s Landing and its likely she will, or at least try to kill Dany. Why bother centering the show around Jon and Dany with Cersei as the main antagonist, if you are all of a sudden going to make them secondary?

Thats all my ranting for now! Lets hope the season finale redeems the past two episodes and show goes out on a banger….Until next time,

Yours Affectionately,

Roe

Dear readers, welcome to Ryder&Roe, my own little corner of the internet. I hope this will be a safe space, where we can discuss anything and everything that is on our mind.

Starting a blog, or some sort of online media platform has been something I have wanted to do for years. You see, I’m a very opinionated person, something which you will no doubt find out. I love nothing more than good discussion or the occassional heated debate but the sad truth is, I have few friends, in fact zero close friends. I used to have an amazing group of friends and was extremely sociable in primary school and the start of secondary school but I isolated myself until it became too late to start over! Enough about that for now, lets get back on topic.

I have thought about Youtube, Instagram and Tumblr and attempted them as well, but the truth is I am not a ‘picture’ person (the thought of taking a selfie makes me want to gauge my eyes out-bit gory) and even though I consider myself a confident enough person, who would happily walk out on stage and speak to crowd of hundreds, I feel a bit awkward and disconnected speaking to a camera and struggle to put together a literate sentence. But writing is my safe place. I love it. I feel like I can connect with people through writing and express everything that is going on inside my crazy, lonely and raging teenage mind. I was writing everyday anyway, so I thought, why not just share it? Whats the worst that could happen!…

So here I am now, I hope you enjoy Ryder&Roe as much as I do and come back time and time again to grace us with your presence. Feel free to comment anything you like! Everything except violence and hate is tolerated, so go crazy..I will be posting a couple of times a week on all kinds of topics, from opinion pieces to book reviews to discussions about my daily life and, I don’t know, Recipes? If I feel like it!! Things will be kept casual and relaxed, as I hope will I.

Yours Affectionately,

Roe
